Madison-based Woodland Tools Co., which makes innovative gardening tools, announced that it received a favorable ruling from the Western District of Wisconsin, dismissing all claims against the company in the lawsuit of Fiskars Brands Inc. v. Woodland Tools Inc. This summary judgment ruling clears Woodland of all allegations by Fiskars.
Concurrently, the summary judgment by the court has permitted Woodland Tools’ counterclaims against Fiskars for false advertising to proceed to trial. Woodland Tools’ counterclaims for invalidity of Fiskars’ patents asserted in the lawsuit will also go to trial.
The upheld counterclaims center on Woodland’s assertions against Fiskars for false advertising, based on Fiskars’ statements about the cutting power of the brand’s tools and some of its statements that certain products were designed in the U.S. Woodland Tools is seeking damages, and these claims are set to be heard in trial in the coming months by the Western District of Wisconsin.
The Fiskars lawsuit, filed in Sept. 2022, included allegations of patent infringement and violation of employee contracts. The ruling delivered on Aug. 26 dismisses all of Fiskars’ claims.
