The Alexander Co. will no longer be the developer for a project to redevelop the Neighborhood House Community Center into a multi-story, mixed-use facility with a community center and apartments, including some affordable units, Isthmus reports. The two organizations reportedly parted ways but did not provide a reason for ending the collaboration.

The redevelopment at 29 S. Mills St. had support from the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA), the city of Madison and Dane County. The center was actively fundraising for the roughly $29 million project, which would have razed the current one-story facility and replaced it with a five-floor building.

Neighborhood House, established in 1916, offers a food pantry, community meals and produce to hundreds of people per week. It also provides free after-school care for children of all ages and a variety of community events.
