The Dane County Regional Airport will spend $20 million as part of a 20-year parking improvement plan designed to keep pace with growing usage. In 2013, 840,000 passengers departed from the terminal, which was the second-highest total in airport history, and $8.5 million was generated in parking revenue. The busiest year recorded was 2004, when 847,300 passengers used the airport.

Beginning this spring, the airport will add three more levels of covered parking to the existing parking ramp, creating another 1,500 parking spots. The project should be completed by December and add another $1 million a year in revenue, which will help pay for the expansion. Remote lots will also be improved, and another parking structure could be added in five to seven years, according to the long-term plan.
