In its first year under a new tax agreement with the City of Madison, tax revenues from Airbnb bookings around the city brought $324,000 in home-sharing tax revenue to the city. The projected figure was $200,000.
During UW–Madison’s commencement weekend May 11-12, for example, 890 guests used Airbnb as area hotels reached peak occupancy.
Airbnb guests in Madison are automatically charged a 10% room tax that gets remitted directly back to the city.
