Fewer applications than expected have prompted the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) to reopen its coronavirus relief program for state farmers, according to a report from Wisconsin Public Radio.

The program is using $50 million in CARES Act funding to help farmers with one-time payments between $1,500 and $3,500. DATCP reported about 14,500 people applied for the program so far but $9 million in funding remains. A second application period will be held in August.
