A planned data center project in DeForest was deemed “not feasible” by village staff, and project company QTS told the Wisconsin State Journal in an emailed statement that it has received the message.

“Through our engagement, it has become clear that now is not the right time for our proposed project to move forward in DeForest,” QTS spokesperson Stephanie Blakely said in a statement.

The village president is expected to reject the annexation petition at an upcoming Feb. 3 village board meeting, leading QTS to formally withdraw its plan.

The DeForest project would cost $12 billion and include five data center buildings on 650 acres. Residents have been firmly opposed to the project.
