The Monona Grove School District is expected to save over $400,000 through administrative restructuring, according to the Leader Independent. The school board on Feb. 19 unanimously approved the reorganization plan and heard a summary of key findings from a budget reduction survey.
Superintendent Tanya Fredrich said that costs for administrative and district office overhead, school supplies and materials, field trips, and extracurricular activities have already been addressed with the intent of minimizing impact on education.
Among the new plan’s major components is a restructured leadership model, shifting from having a director of curriculum and instruction with two coordinators in elementary and secondary roles, respectively, to implementing a director of teaching and learning for grades 4K–5 and another for grades 6–12. The move trims the staff in this area from three to two, resulting in a savings of $97,000 in salary and benefits.
