Justice Shirley Abrahamson, a 42-year veteran on Wisconsin State Supreme Court, has decided not to run for re-election.

At the age of 84, she announced she would not run for her fifth 10-year term and plans instead to hang up her robe when her current term ends on July 31, 2019.

Abrahamson, first appointed by Gov. Patrick Lucey in 1976, was the first female to serve on the state’s highest court.
