The message airing in Florida markets implies states that have banned abortion could see an intensified brain drain as workers move to states with more liberal abortion laws. Newsom’s 30-second television commercial says “freedom is under attack” with Republican policies and invites Florida residents to move to California. Meanwhile, two Democrats — Sen. Kristen Sinema of Arizona and Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia — have pushed back against President Joe Biden’s suggestion that the Senate gut the filibuster for a vote to codify abortion rights at the national level.
