Abbott, the parent company of Madison’s Exact Sciences, Wednesday introduced SimpleScreen CRC, a blood-based colorectal cancer screening test.

The new test, which is approved by the Food and Drug Administration, is for adults aged 45 and older who are at average risk for the disease.

SimpleScreen CRC joins the Cologuard Plus test, which was developed by Exact Sciences, in Abbott’s colorectal cancer screening portfolio.

SimpleScreen was developed and manufactured by Freenome, a California biotech company that entered into an exclusive U.S. licensing and commercialization agreement with Exact Sciences in August 2025.

Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S., but it is both preventable and treatable when detected early.

Kevin Conroy, the former CEO of Exact Sciences, which was acquired by Abbott in March, spoke earlier this week about the development of Cologuard and his hopes that Abbott’s reach will bring cancer fighting tools to patients around the world.
