AAA is predicting that a record number of Wisconsinites will travel for this Thanksgiving holiday, Wisconsin Public Radio reports, with almost 1.6 million residents anticipated to drive or fly this week.
The last record year for Thanksgiving travel was 2019; the following years saw declines stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and related concerns. This year, AAA is projecting over 1.4 million will travel by road for holiday plans, and another 115,000 will travel by air.
One factor that may affect this year’s expected travel numbers is the price of gas, which AAA reported was around $2.80 per gallon in Wisconsin as of Nov. 20. That’s lower than the roughly $3 per gallon price during the same period in 2023.
