The Madison Plan Commission approved land use requests for the 800 block of East Washington Avenue that will include the new Cosmos and Spark buildings. The approvals mean construction could start in 2017, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

The Cosmos, from Gebhardt Development, was approved for four stories including offices, retail, and a Frank Productions music venue able to hold 2,500 people. Gebhardt would need to make changes to get an eight-story portion approved.

A conditional permit for the adjacent eight-story Spark building from American Family Insurance was also granted. In addition to some Am Fam offices, the Spark will also house the entrepreneurial hub StartingBlock Madison.
