A new north side Madison project, The Foodshed Partnership, will create a $6 million, 10,000-square-foot facility to receive, store, process, and distribute local food, The Capital Times reports. The Community Action Coalition of South Central Wisconsin and Christy McKenzie from café and meal kit provider Pasture and Plenty are leading the project.
The project received a grant for almost $2.5 million from the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Monday as part of the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program funded by President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan. Plans for the so-called “terminal market” include dry storage and cold storage space, a large food processor, and offices.
The project aims to increase accessibility of Wisconsin-grown goods for local schools, hospitals, major employers, churches, and more.
