The Martin Luther King Jr. Coalition of Madison & Dane County will host the 40th Annual Madison & Dane County observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday from 5–8 p.m. on Jan. 20, 2025, at the Capitol Theater in the Overture Center for the Arts.
Bishop Vashti McKenzie, the first female bishop of the AME Church, will be the 2025 MLK Day keynote speaker. Bishop McKenzie was the first female elected to office in the history of the AME Church. She is currently president/general secretary of the National Council of Churches where she provides executive leadership to 37 denominations, 100,000 churches, and 30 million people.
The observance will also feature the presentation of the MLK Humanitarian Award by Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and Dane County Executive Melissa Agard. The MLK Community Choir led by Leotha and Tamera Stanley is scheduled to perform and there will be a call to action.
