$30M projected shortfall prompts city budget cuts

Madison’s city budget is taking a projected $30 million hit due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway is responding with hiring freezes and purchasing moratoriums, according to a Wisconsin State Journalreport.

The mayor will freeze hiring on all city positions with the exceptions of essential services, add additional review and approval for seasonal hiring, and stop all nonessential purchases of supplies and services.
