The city of Madison Housing Tracker shows 249 new homes were created in October, the third-highest monthly total for the year, behind August with 423 new homes and May with 388.
Out of the 249 homes, 129 are affordable units, or city-subsidized units reserved for families making no more than 60% of the area’s median income, with rents capped at 30% of their monthly income.
In 2025, that equates to someone making $54,540 per year or less, or a household of three earning a combined $70,140 or less.
According to a statement, the new affordable homes include 54 at Yellowstone Apartments and 73 at Rise Madison. The other two are single-family homes that received city support through the Affordable Housing Fund – Non-Tax Credit development RFP process in 2022.
The total number of houses added in 2025 is 1,932. Madison is 13% of the way toward its goal of creating 15,000 new homes by 2030.
