2025 Dane County Budget allocates $30M for housing

Dane County Executive Jamie Kuhn on Monday signed the 2025 Dane County Budget alongside members of the Dane County Board. A public engagement process and accelerated timeline allowed budget passage earlier than previous years. Historic investments in service delivery and housing were the focus of this budget.

Budget highlights include:

  • Over $30 million for housing and housing supports;

  • Enhanced access to programming for veterans;

  • Additional capacity in Adult Protective Services;

  • Funds to establish a Dementia Care Stabilization Unit;

  • Increased language access in multiple departments of county services;

  • Increased support for reentry and jail diversion programs;

  • A $10 million commitment to the Dane County Conservation Fund;

  • Investments in the Alliant Energy Center campus and funding for next steps of the exposition hall expansion;

  • $16.6 million in county highway projects across the county; and

  • $2 million in capital financing to expand access to community resource hub Sunshine Place.

The 2025 budget proposal totals $926,179,104. The operating budget is $813,712,952, while the capital plan is $112,466,152. The tax rate is $2.57 per $1,000 of equalized value, down from $2.73 in 2024.
