Clean Lakes Alliance announced the release of the 2024 Greater Madison Lake Guide, a comprehensive publication showcasing Greater Madison’s lakes that will be mailed on Wednesday, May 1 to over 20,000 homes and businesses in the area.

Highlighting local people, places, and projects, as well as the trends and factors affecting water quality conditions, this year’s guide features the 2023 State of the Lakes, a report providing insights into the health and well-being of the area’s five Yahara lakes: Mendota, Monona, Wingra, Waubesa, and Kegonsa. The report is authored by Clean Lakes Alliance Deputy Director and Chief Science Officer Paul Dearlove and offers an annual synopsis of lake and watershed conditions, focusing on major drivers and indicators of water quality collected over the prior year.

This year’s report offers encouraging news about the health of Greater Madison’s lakes. Thanks to drought conditions limiting runoff, all five lakes achieved “good” to “excellent” rankings for phosphorus levels, leading to improved water clarity. Furthermore, fewer nearshore cyanobacteria blooms were observed, signaling positive trends in lake health. The report underscores the community’s ongoing efforts and the potential for continued improvement in preserving and enhancing its water resources.

In addition, the 2024 Greater Madison Lake Guide is an all-inclusive, complimentary guide to local lake-related businesses and amenities. The guide is distributed to lake residents and stakeholders and stocked at local hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
