A federal court on Tuesday charged two Dane County men with attempting to deal over 400 grams of fentanyl they allegedly flew into the Middleton Municipal Airport via a private plane, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
The two men, Corvallis M. Stewart, 36, of Madison, and Larry D. Williamson Jr., 35, of Waunakee, were arrested at the airport on Feb. 8 arriving from Arizona. They were found with roughly 46.4 pounds of M30 fentanyl pills and around 17.5 pounds of methamphetamine and fentanyl mixture.
The criminal complaint in the case stated that law enforcement was tipped off two days before the arrest by someone who interacted with Stewart and Wiliamson in the Arizona airport. The tipster said the two behaved suspiciously and provided the U.S. Department of Homeland Security with their airplane’s tail number.
Officers canvassed the Middleton airport parking lot prior to the plane’s arrival and located a pickup truck registered to Williamson and a Jeep registered to Stewart, around which a Middleton Police Officer K-9 smelled drugs.
When the two men arrived around 10:56 p.m. and Stewart put bags into the back of his Jeep, police arrested them, and the Jeep was searched when the K-9 smelled drugs again. Officers found five bundles wrapped with black electrical tape, all containing a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl. They also found a duffel bag with bags full of blue pills that field-tested positive for fentanyl.
Stewart and Williamson face 10 years to life in prison if convicted.
