A $14 million donation from American Girl founder Pleasant Rowland will allow One City Schools to buy a Monona office building and expand its programming, according to a Wisconsin State Journal story. The $12 million purchase and renovation of the 157,000-square-foot WPS Health Solutions office building at 1707 W. Broadway will allow One City Schools to expand to grades 4K–12. Renovations include adding a gymnasium, science labs, and culinary spaces.
The school received conditional approval from the University of Wisconsin System’s Office of Educational Opportunity to begin teaching middle- and high-schoolers in the fall of 2022. One City, which predominantly educates disadvantaged populations, currently enrolls 167 children from age two to the second grade through its private preschool and public charter portions at two locations on Madison’s South Side.
