Dane County officials have committed to a multiyear, $13 million program to permanently house homeless families and individuals who are currently staying in hotels due to the pandemic, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal. The federally funded program could help pay rent and utilities for up to two years for as many as 67 families and 230 individuals experiencing homelessness.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the county has partnered with service providers to house as many as 400 vulnerable homeless individuals in hotel rooms to lower their risk of exposure to the virus. The estimated $23 million in hotel room expenditures are funded through federal relief money through the end of August.
