Alliant Energy’s service area has at least 12 data center proposals, according to the Cap Times.
The areas where the data centers could be is unknown. The amount of energy that could be used is also unknown.
Data centers have been a controversial issue for local communities, with people expressing concerns about a lack of transparency in their development, water and land usage and potential costs to customers.
Right now, there are four known data centers in Alliant’s service area: two in Beaver Dam, one in Janesville, and one in Beloit.
