A new report by Stessa identifying the U.S. states with the most people falling behind on their rent payments in the second half of 2021 indicated that 12.2% of renters in Wisconsin were behind in their rent payments for the six-month period. The study indicated that renters who work in lower-wage occupations that have been most disrupted by the pandemic, such as retail and hospitality, are less likely to have savings to keep up with rent payments. The study ranked states by the weekly average percentage of renters who reported being behind on their payments between July and December of 2021. Louisiana ranked highest at 22.1% of renters behind in rent payments for the study period.
