The 100 block of State Street, plagued in recent years by numerous vacancies and multiple failed projects, is being revitalized with a number of new businesses, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
Vintage on State opened in April at the corner of State and West Dayton Streets in the commercial space formerly occupied by a tailor shop and, more recently, Red Square Flowers, which moved across the street. The 250-square-foot shop is one of the city’s smallest retail spots and was the first brick-and-mortar store for Rob Mackesey, who before that had sold vintage clothing online out of his Cottage Grove home. The store offers vintage sportswear, around 95% of which is sourced from the Madison area.
Singlestitch Madison, another vintage clothing resale shop, also recently opened on the block. A Nepalese-Indian restaurant is set to open there in a few weeks, and plans are in the works for a night club as well.
The former YWCA building will then mark the lone vacancy on that side of the street, which is also home to Michelangelo’s Coffee House and Ian’s Pizza, two businesses that draw substantial traffic.
