American Transmission Co. wants to build new transmission lines to support the power needs of Port Washington’s data center, according to a Wisconsin Public Radio report.
The company would build new lines, rebuild existing ones and build new substations across several counties. These additions and improvements would meet energy demands for the Port Washington data center.
The new transmission line would run for just over 90 miles and run across Calumet, Fond du Lac, Ozaukee, Manitowoc, Sheboygan and Washington counties.
The data center design includes four buildings that require 1.3 gigawatts of electricity.
Residents of Port Washington have been outspoken about the data center, but it was approved by the city’s Common Council in August. Data centers as a whole have been a topic of heated debate.
