Closed in 2021, the Wonder Bar could soon become housing.

The building is known for its Prohibition-era lore thanks to its alleged ties to bootleggers and gangsters when it first opened in the 1930s.

But with no way forward to preserve the structure, the Cap Times reported that the building could be razed along with the Coliseum Bar at 222 and 232 E. Olin Ave., respectively, to make way for a seven-story development with 190 apartments and 1,600 square feet of commercial space.

Range Hill Partners is the entity moving forward with the plan, but still needs to start a formal approval process with the city. Construction could begin next spring if OK’d, with a projected opening of 2029.
