Nearly 10 years after the closing of Madison’s Oscar Mayer plant, the future of the 2 million-square-foot facility appears to be taking a technological turn, according to an article in the Wisconsin State Journal.
Earlier plans for a high-density employment corridor with a mix of housing, restaurants and other businesses never came to fruition.
But following recent news that Madison-based Realta Fusion plans to open a roughly $500 million research and development facility in the former hot dog factory, the plant’s new owners envision an incubator for similar cutting-edge technologies.
Dan Seibel and Randy Goll, who acquired 49 acres of the main Oscar Mayer campus last year, want to add other nuclear fusion companies, or businesses that are part of the fusion supply chain or companies that work in other high-tech industries such as quantum computing.
