The state of Wisconsin on Oct. 2 announced that counties and municipalities received more than $152 million in fourth-quarter payments to maintain and repair local roads and connecting highways.

The fourth quarter funding, provided in the 2025-27 biennial budget, brings the 2026 annual total for local road improvements to more than $570 million.

The fourth quarter payments included:

  • General transportation aids: $142.6 million to local units of government
  • Connecting highway aids: $4.3 million to 116 eligible municipalities
  • policing aids: $5.3 million to Milwaukee County.

The 2025-27 biennial budget, signed into law by Gov. Tony Evers last year, invested $1.1 billion overall in new funding for key transportation projects.
