Wisconsin is among a coalition of states, cities and counties that is suing the Trump administration for repealing regulations to limit greenhouse gas emissions from coal and gas-fired power plants, according to a report by Wisconsin Public Radio.

The coalition filed a petition for review of the rollback in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul, who filed the suit on behalf of the state, said the EPA should be protecting citizens from pollution, not clearing the way for it.

“The Trump administration has chosen more wildfire smoke, more extreme weather, more harms to people’s health — and, of course, more in profits for the fossil fuel industry,” Kaul said in a statement.

Rolling back the regulations, put in place by the Biden administration, would save the power industry more than $300 billion, according to the Trump-administered Environmental Protection Agency.
