With the gubernatorial primary two weeks away, the five remaining Democratic Party candidates for Wisconsin governor found more areas of agreement than points of contention during a televised debate on Tuesday.
Democratic gubernatorial hopefuls Mandela Barnes, Joel Brennan, David Crowley, Francesca Hong and Kelda Roys took part in the primary debate in Milwaukee that lacked fireworks.
With Hong leading in the most recent Marquette University Law poll, the candidates chose to focus more on areas of agreement, such as raising taxes on millionaires, Wisconsin Public Radio reported.
Other areas of agreement were limiting private voucher schools and spending part of the state’s budget surplus, now estimated at $2.3 billion to $2.5 billion, on public education.
The winner of the Aug. 11 primary will likely face Republican front runner, U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, in November.
