A state law taking effect on July 1 will ensure mothers are insured under Medicaid for a year, the Cap Times reported.

Before the law, mothers would have lost coverage 60 days after giving birth.

Wisconsin is the 49th state to extend the coverage to a year — a change recommended by health professionals.

Mothers will be able to take care of both physical and mental health issues that arise or are ongoing.
