Fraser Industries, a Superior shipyard, is partnering with the owner of the world’s largest shipbuilding company as the Trump administration looks to revitalize U.S. shipbuilding, according to a report from Wisconsin Public Radio.
The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the parent company of HD Hyundai’s shipbuilding division, as part of the July 23 opening of the Korea-U.S. Shipbuilding Partnership Center in Washington, D.C.
The center will oversee the rollout of South Korea’s $150 billion investment in the U.S. shipbuilding industry — part of a deal reached last November to reduce American tariffs on South Korean imports.
Fraser Shipyards, which currently employs 200 people, and HD Hyundai will work to modernize the Wisconsin company by incorporating advanced technology, including the use of automation equipment and artificial intelligence.
