Some statewide communities are weighing imposing restrictions on electric bikes and scooters, according to Wisconsin Public Radio.

The Waukesha Common Council is considering an ordinance to regulate the use of e-bikes and e-scooters within the city.

Muskego’s mayor said a city committee may draft a measure that would limit the use of e-transportation devices there.

An ordinance banning those over 16 from riding e-bikes on city sidewalks was just passed by the West Bend Common Council.

In the city of Chetek in Barron County, the police chief recently announced that e-scooters and golf carts may not operate on county roads within the city.

Meanwhile, following a Milwaukee man’s hospitalization this week after being hit by someone riding a Lime scooter downtown, Milwaukee Alder Bob Bauman is pushing for a review of “safety protocols in our scooter program.”

Many of these moves stem from safety concerns and/or a recent uptick in e-transportation usage.
