Wisconsin’s biohealth industry generated $38.1 billion in total economic activity and employed 59,519 people across 2,667 businesses in 2025, according to a new economic impact report.

The biennial report, prepared by TEConomy Partners LLC, was released by BioForward Wisconsin Thursday during the 2026 Wisconsin Biohealth Summit in Milwaukee.

It found that industry employment grew 12.9% from 2021 to 2025, compared with 6.9% nationally, with four of Wisconsin’s five major biohealth subsectors expanding during that period.

Average annual wages reached $116,452 in 2025 — 76% above the statewide average for all industries.

“Wisconsin’s strength comes from the way our biohealth ecosystem works together,” Lisa Johnson, CEO of BioForward Wisconsin, said in a press release.

“Companies, research institutions, healthcare systems, manufacturers, entrepreneurs and workforce partners are creating an environment where innovation can move from discovery to commercialization and ultimately to patients,” Johnson said.
