The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, which presents the annual summer concert series Concerts on the Square, announced the cancellation of its July 29 concert.

Last week’s concert abruptly ended after protesters took the stage during the concert, which was held on the same day Ruiz was shot and killed by Madison police.

“The decision comes as Madison continues to grieve following the fatal police shooting of Corey Durell Ruiz on July 22, 2026,” the WCO said in a statement posted on its website.

“In conversations with community stakeholders, it has become clear that this is a time for listening, reflection, and creating space for our community to process together.”
