The Waunakee Community School District celebrated the opening of its new Waunakee Community Middle School at 501 South St. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday.
“This is an exciting day for our students, staff, families and the entire Waunakee community,” Jeff Kenas, principal of Waunakee Community Middle School, said in a statement. “We are incredibly grateful for the community’s support and for everyone who helped bring this building to life. We are proud to welcome our students into a school designed to support their learning, growth, and sense of belonging for many years to come.”
The school first opened in 2026 for summer school and now has grades seven and eight for the 2026-2027 school year.
The building includes spaces for music, art, science, world languages and more. It also features a gym with three full-size basketball courts, solar panels and collaboration areas. The new school is 235,637 square feet.
“This new school represents an important investment in our students and community, beginning with the community’s support of the referendum in November 2022,” Joan Ensign, president of the Waunakee Community School District Board of Education, said in a statement. “Waunakee Community Middle School reflects our commitment to providing high-quality learning environments focused on student learning, well-being, and success.”
