More operating rooms and patient beds will be added to the local healthcare system when UW Health opens the $140 million expansion of its East Madison Hospital on Nov. 2.

The 120,000-square-foot expansion will add six operating rooms, 14 inpatient beds, and 37 bays for surgery prep and recovery.

“Every decision we make begins with our patients,” Ryann DeGraff, vice president and regional chief operating officer, East Madison Hospital, UW Health, said in a press release. “This expansion is about creating better access to care and ensuring patients can receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

“We hope patients feel the thoughtfulness and commitment behind this project when they walk through our doors because every aspect of this expansion was designed with their needs in mind.”

Overall, the expansion will bring the hospital’s total square footage to about 620,000, enabling the facility, located at 4602 Eastpark Blvd., to perform 30% more surgeries and handle 6% more inpatient admissions.
