The UW Health Transplant Center will hold a special celebration on Sept. 20 to celebrate its 60th anniversary and honor patients, donors and healthcare professionals who are part of its history.

The free, family-friendly event will be at the Alliant Energy Center.

Since performing its first kidney transplant in 1966, the center’s medical professionals have performed transplants on more than 20,000 patients.

Nearly 900 transplant recipients who are more than 25 years post-transplant are still alive today.

In that six decade period, the center has also supported more than 4,200 living donors.

“Every transplant represents a remarkable story of generosity, hope and second chances,” Melissa Roberts, executive director of the UW Health Transplant Center, said in a press release.

During the anniversary celebration, family-friendly activities will include an almost life-sized game of Operation.

Advanced registration is encouraged. More information about the event can be found online.
