Madison’s Urban Triage will give the public an opportunity to learn more about its programs that cultivate the next generation of Black farmers, entrepreneurs and agricultural business owners at its 5th Annual Urban Harvest Festival on Sept. 19 at the Farley Center in Verona.
The event showcases the produce grown and businesses launched through Urban Triage’s agriculture initiatives.
Families can enjoy fresh local food, agricultural demonstrations and entertainment while learning how community-based agriculture creates opportunities across Dane County.
Among Urban Triage’s agricultural programs are its Supporting Healthy Agriculture initiative and its Hemp Specialty Crop Program for Entrepreneurs.
These initiatives teach people how to grow food as well as create pathways to economic mobility, food sovereignty and business ownership by giving participants the resources and hands-on experience needed to go from gardeners to business owners.
“Our agriculture work is about far more than planting seeds,” Brandi Grayson, founder and CEO of Urban Triage, said in a press release. “We’re planting opportunities. We’re creating pathways for Black families to build wealth, own businesses, reconnect with agriculture and strengthen our communities for generations to come.”
