Preliminary July 2026 unemployment rates stayed the same in eight of the state’s metropolitan areas, decreased in four metro areas and increased in one area, Appleton, over the month.
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates were released Wednesday by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
The release provided estimates of employment and unemployment statistics for metropolitan areas, major cities and counties in Wisconsin.
Over the year, unemployment rates increased in 12 metropolitan areas and stayed the same only in Fond du Lac.
Unemployment rates increased in 10 of Wisconsin’s largest cities over the month, decreased in 19 cities and stayed the same in the remaining six cities.
Among counties, unemployment rates ranged from 2.4% in Lafayette County to 7.6% in Menominee County.
