The stock market is off to a rocky start this week, as rising oil prices and persistent inflationary fears caused the Dow industrials to fall about 550 points, or 1%, in early trading Tuesday, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq composite were down less than 0.5%.
Brent crude futures, the international benchmark, headed back to $100-a-barrel after Iran-backed Houthi militants in Yemen struck Saudi energy infrastructure.
The national average price for a gallon of gasoline rose to $4.15.
Meanwhile, Canada’s retaliatory tariffs of up to 50% on certain American products went into effect Tuesday.
