Wisconsin election officials said this week that implementing President Donald Trump’s order on mail-in ballots would invite errors and disenfranchise voters in this fall’s mid-term elections, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
In a multistate filing on Aug. 31, Wisconsin Elections Commission chairman Don Millis wrote that new rules contained in Trump’s order are unworkable.
Among the proposed rule changes are the printing of new barcodes on ballot envelopes — barcodes that already have been printed under state law following the certification of primary election results.
“It would be virtually impossible for Wisconsin to comply with the Rule, for several reasons,” Millis wrote.
The executive order, issued in March, is blocked by a temporary restraining order.
On Thursday, Trump petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the rules to go forward.
