President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social Wednesday that $17.9 million in disaster relief funds has been approved to help Fox Valley communities recover from damaging summer storms, but Gov. Tony Evers, who is responsible for distributing the funds, said he has not been notified, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
A spokeswoman for Evers said he has “zero information” aside from the details contained in the social media post.
Trump’s post on Truth Social said he has spoken to Republican Congressman Tom Tiffany, a candidate to succeed Evers as governor, about the disaster relief.
The funding will help Appleton, Fox Crossing and Menasha recover from severe storms, including a destructive EF-3 tornado, that hit the Fox Valley area on July 27 and caused an estimated $22 million in damage to property and infrastructure.
Individuals and families who sustained losses should first file claims with their insurance providers and then apply for assistance online.
