A tornado that ripped through Winnebago County in northeastern Wisconsin Monday damaged and destroyed homes and businesses and left tens of thousands of people without power, according to a report in Appleton-based Insight on Business, the sister publication of In Business Madison.
Much of the damage was reported in the city of Menasha, which was without power due to a downed transmission line.
In all, 31,000 We Energies customers were without power in Appleton, Neenah and Menasha.
The twister struck as part of a large storm system that moved through the Great Lakes, powered by a buildup of heat and humidity.
According to the Associated Press, there were no reports of fatalities or injuries as of Monday evening, but emergency officials were still searching, said Gordon Hintz, Winnebago County’s top elected official.
