Wall Street stocks fell Tuesday from record heights they had reached Monday, according to the Associated Press.Â
The S&P 500 fell 0.5% but remains near its all-time high, set last Thursday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also fell 0.5%, while the Nasdaq composite slipped 0.3%.Â
Oil prices have continued to creep higher after a brief respite in July driven by hopes for an end to the war with Iran. The 60-day deadline for an agreement to end the war and resolve the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program is expiring, and an interim agreement in June has collapsed.
In the last month, Brent crude, the international standard, zigzagged between $72 and $102 per barrel.Â
Early Tuesday, the price of a barrel of Brent crude was up 0.5% to $91.35, while benchmark U.S. crude rose 0.8% to $85.16 per barrel.
