The state of Wisconsin announced Thursday it will provide $58 million in grants to continue efforts to provide high-speed internet to unserved areas through the State Broadband Expansion Grant Program.

The announcement was made by Gov. Tony Evers and the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.

For the first time, the state said its Wisconsin Broadband Office and applicants used the Broadband Serviceable Location nationwide dataset to more precisely identify locations in highest need of high-speed broadband, including fiber and fixed wireless.

The Wisconsin Broadband Office estimates that after removing locations set to receive improved fiber and fixed wireless service, at least 30,000 locations in Wisconsin will remain unserved and it will work to close the gap with additional funding.
