The state of Wisconsin has secured over $11 million from the U.S. Department of Education to enable the state Department of Workforce Development to serve disabled people eligible for vocational rehabilitation.
With the funding, the DWD’s Division of Vocational Rehabilitation will be able to provide services without the need to restart a waitlist through federal fiscal year 2027.
According to Gov. Tony Evers, a state funding shortfall had threatened access to the program, which is administered by the DVR and provides training and technical assistance to employers on issues related to disability employment.
“Wisconsin is leading the way when it comes to bolstering the workforce and pushing the boundaries of a growing 21st-century economy, and a big part of that success includes connecting folks of all abilities to rewarding careers and job opportunities,” Evers said in a press release.
