The Wisconsin Supplier Diversity Program and Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development are warning against new cybersecurity risks.
The WSDP is warning people to be extra cautious of spam emails that seem to be from the program, but are not. They contain a message with a “TransferXL” link or attachment that people should not click on.
DWD said Monday in a statement that email scams are targeting injured workers.
From what the department has gathered, there may be a multi-state fraud scheme happening where fraudsters are tricking people into fake worker’s compensation hearings. Individuals tricked are awarded money but then asked to pay a fee to finalize proceedings.
The scams have largely targeted Spanish speakers. Some emails to look out for contain a .org at the end, like “@workcompcourt.org.”
Worker’s compensation hearings are only scheduled through written letters.
