A Milwaukee food bank is leveraging a $2.5 million state grant to help Wisconsin farmers do more to fight hunger, according to an article by Wisconsin Public Radio.
The Hunger Task Force created the Connecting Farms to Families program with grant money provided by the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
Under the program, the organization buys food from 250 farms and donates it to emergency food organizations in 58 counties across the state.
They include local food pantries and meal programs, Tribal nations and other nonprofits.
The Hunger Task Force is looking to raise money to make the program permanent. The state grant funds the first two years of the program.
