The Wisconsin Department of Revenue has filed a one-page tax warrant against Ridglan Farms, a shuttered dog breeder, that claims the company owes $23,950.13 in employee income taxes that it collected but didn’t send to the agency.
The warrant, which acts like a lien against a taxpayer’s property, was filed Monday in Dane County Circuit Court, according to an article in the Wisconsin State Journal. It gives Ridglan 60 days to pay the taxes.
Following years of protests by animal rights activists, including a March break-in that freed 22 dogs, Ridglan shut down after selling the last of its remaining beagles to Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Florida.
Ridglan has denied the allegations that it mistreated the animals.
